Go West Pastry Prophet: Arizona Travel, Food, and Fun

May 23, 2018

In April I made a plan to escape the wet and chilly weather of Philadelphia. So this blogger went west for the warm and picturesque landscape of Arizona – more specifically the cities of Scottsdale, Tucson, and Phoenix.

The purpose of the trip was twofold.

First: I haven’t taken a vacation for two years. I’m about to snap.

Second: Two: To visit my buddy, Cassie Hepler of Explore With Cassie, , who is a transplant to Arizona. Since she is no longer a stranger in a strange land, I left it up to Cassie to show me all the great places she discovered.

It was dark when the flight left Philadelphia. I’m the annoying passenger who sits by the window and takes pictures as soon as it’s light.

Cassie picked me up from the airport and took me to a lovely spot for breakfast. Arcadia Farms Cafe & Market offered the most delicious scones and croissants.

A visit to Tempe, AZ where Cassie coerced me into sitting in the #DowntownTempe big chair.

Rooster Cogburn Picacho, AZ Ostriches

Rooster Cogburn’s Petting Zoo was more of a feeding zoo. Although behind a fence, the animals here are healthy and very well feed.

The Rainbow Lorikeets were so friendly and beautiful. I think they liked me as much as I adored them.

There’s no such thing as a bad landscape picture in Arizona.

Later we head over to the Pie Snob. More snobby than me regarding pie? We’ll see Pie Snob.

Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory’s tasty bit of caramel with a smooth dark chocolate and sea salt.

The true meaning of candy apple from Rocky Mountain. Chock full of nuts.

Cien Agaves Tacos & Tequila

Cien Agaves Tacos & Tequila’s Skinny Margarita!

A trio of tacos from Cien Agaves Tacos & Tequila. Cassie misplaced her leftover beans.

OSHO cocktail Frothy Lady

OHSO Cocktail The Frothy Lady: Gin Martini, Grapefruit Vodka, lemon, simple syrup, orange bitters. Another great bar who makes their own spirits.

Stuff to take back home. I love OHSA’s gin and vodka.  Also some minis to add to my Advent calendar.

To finish the trip I had cinnamon churros with a side of ice cream at the restaurant located on-site at the Holiday Inn Club Vacation Resort. I’m going to miss Tex-Mex.

Now that I had my share of fun in the sun, I’m reenergized to return to the east coast. This trip made miss me Cassie more, but it reaffirmed that I need to travel more than I had in the past. Look out world! I’m dusting off the passport!

The filling was phenomenal, but I thought the crust was a little thick and overworked. I’m willing to try it again.
