Feeding Philadelphian Gourmands Amazing Dutch Cuisine

Like everyone on the planet, it seems life before Covid-19 happened so long ago. No matter what anyone says, last year isn’t the same time distance as 50 years ago. Just stop it.

I miss indoor dining unfettered with masks. Although I’m bothered that people are now washing their hands as they should. Do you realize how many germs are on doorknobs, railings, and other common areas?

In a city full of self-described foodies and gourmands, Noord eetcafe invites you to try something literally fresh and possibly new to you as it was for me.

I first heard about this restaurant during a Tasting Collective excursion, but I fell in love with Noord with my first bite. The fresh seafood and pickled items standard to Dutch cuisine, although unfamiliar with my palate, happened to sing a symphony from my tastebuds to my brain.

Last year when I applied to appear on Check, Please! Philly, the questionnaire requested me to name one of my favorite area restaurants; it took little effort on my part to decide.

A creation from Netherlands-born chef Joncarl Lachman, Noord’s atmosphere, and foods hit all the points to entice your senses.

Located in one of many trendy parts of the city, parking is always an issue, but once you get over that you’re in for a good time.

Of course, one sure way to truly impress me is the in-house creation of bread and desserts. Not only does Noord create their bread and dessert on-site, but it’s delectable by taking skill, care, and talent to make something that’s remarkable.

I didn’t want to leave and needed to tell the world … at least diners in the Delaware Valley about Noord.

My episode of Check, Please aired during the pandemic’s peak when all the restaurants in the city (and most of the country) shut down. What’s more, I got furloughed from my job. Let’s just say I wasn’t in a good place.

Now it’s October, change is coming, Noord is back open for dining in, I lost 30 pounds from the date of filming, and I’m pursuing my dreams after my furlough turned into a layoff.

There’s a lot going on in Philadelphia right now, supporting local businesses and restaurants, along with our neighbors should be our top priority.

Make any highlight in your life a celebration and check out what Noord eetcafe has on the menu.
